What happens if you were to drop your Palm Pre into Beer or some sort of liquid? The embedded video will give you a good idea...

poor pre :(

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenter@acarback

so how come the embedded video won't play on my Pre? I have to go to a computer to see a Pre video from a Pre site? WTF?

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCarolyn

Also, Carol, Pre's Browser doesn't have flash yet, so you can't see videos embedded in websites (even here)

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAndrew S.

Indeed, I also pitty that palm pre.

To bad you have to waste your phone like that..

This is a pathetic attempt by Apple to damage the Pre's European launch. The video itself was uploaded using an iPhone.

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterlaze

I suppose he has money to waste.

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdebsawyer

At least it took beer to kill the Pre. An i-phone dies with a little bit of perspiration!

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterQ ball dude

oh no! He ruined the beer!

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterprepre

Still one the fence with switching from Treo to the Pre....this played flawlessly on my treo680

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMe

So it can send calls to voice mail for a minute while soaking in hops, but....

can it blend?

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGib Wallis

waste of beer!

October 10, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterme

the iPhone only wishes it could compete with the Pre. I have to say though, going down in a mug of beer is pretty sweet. Lol.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterartista

saying the iphone wishes it could keep up with the pre is like saying the florida gator's football teams wishes it could keep up with washington state.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergrilla

i don't like when people just destroy stuff like that. Seems they have no regard for money.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterrickrock

I guess some blithering morons have more spare money than sense.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJames

That has to be the most watered down beer i have ever seen. Why would you waste a pre in crappy beer.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSean

If you read the description on youtube, it describes the scenario here:

The owner of the Pre was unhappy because his screen had cracked three times, and was already on his third pre (so the unit in the video had a cracked screen already). This guy's boss offered to buy him an iPhone if he killed his Pre. He figured it was a good deal, I guess.

BTW, have they still not resolved the screen cracking issue?

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSupacon

Who in their right mind would ... call that beer? It looks like dishwater.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBeerLover

Isn't awesome that we live in a country so saturated with wealth that we can afford to just destroy something as valuable as a Palm Pre for a minute's worth of entertainment, rather than donate it to a charity where it is so desperately needed?

That phone could have gone to an under -equipped soldier in Iraq. That phone could've gone to a woman so she could call someone to come get her, rather than risk walking home alone in a bad neighborhood and possibly getting raped. That phone could've simply been sold and money donated to any charity from poor in Africa, to Asia, even to helping victims of Hurricane Katrina.

But instead it was dropped in a mug of beer for some laughs. Good going guys. You could've put a child in Africa to school for a year, but instead you had a few laughs.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMakr

a lot of things could have been done with that phone, i agree. Same as you could have been reading to a child, donating your time to charity, planting a tree, blah blah blah...
instead, you "wasted" your time looking at a post from people trying to get a laugh out of life.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterreally?

wow you guys are total geeks. its barely even funny and youre cracking up for 90 seconds+, get a life.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commentery0mom

You're an idiot. Donating a cell phone to charity does not magically help people in the situations you described. What kind of Soldier so desperately needs a phone? If anything, that'd be unsafe connection-wise.
If somebody doesn't have a phone, it's likely that they can't afford the service because many services come with free phones.

And the little "child in Africa" comment? Pure idiocy.

Stop crying and making a big deal out of nothing.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFish

Huh. Couldn't see it on your Pre? Funny my iPhone played it just fine.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commentererwebsurfer

why, why, why, .......... I need a new pre but cant afford the ins. cost right now, this pains me seeing someone do this... Ouch it hurts...!!!!!!! be nice to your pre or your pre wont like you!

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSam

Apparently a couple of people posted here who don't think a cell phone donation is possible or makes a difference. Since you couldn't be bothered to look it up, let me Google that for you:

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMakr

i've had my pre since day one and i dont have a screen cracking issue or of anything of that nature. I personally think he was just an Apple fan boy that wanted to make a video for attention. I'm in the navy and i'm pretty rough on most things i own, my last phone was an instinct that fell down into drydock, 8830 was pretty banged up from falling out of my pocket, yet it seemed to work. But i have my pre and it looks and acts the same as it did the first day, other then the software upgrades

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSean

Yeah... it's too bad that the initial build issues were so severe (screen cracks, massive oreo's). I have a later build and everything is fine - loving webOS and my Pre, no issues whatsoever.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbez

He drank a beer that had a phone battery in it? Dude, check with your doctor next time before you do that.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdavidwr

My daughter dropped my pre in the toilet. After not even 24 hours I had it running, took another couple days for the screen to completely dry. Been about a month so far, works perfectly!! Resilient bugger.

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterdbuss

This is better!! Link

October 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMe

Dude calm down, his screen cracked and was offered a new phone if somehow his Pre miraculously got destroyed. Donating isn't considered as "destroyed". So two choices: somehow have his phone destroyed to get a new one or keep a cracked phone and spend hundreds to buy a new one. So he chose to have some fun destroying it. Why not? We all clicked on the post. The little kid in us all wanted to see carnage. He had fun. Period.

Haha I find it hilarious how you guys say the Pre is better then the iPhone. Haha that's why Apple has sold about 21 million units :) numbers don't lie guys.

October 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMatt

That beer looks like "making love in a canoe".

October 13, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMonty Python

Funny that a cracked screen seems to be common for the Pre. I've dropped mine at least 20 times (albeit with a clear snap on case you can get for it) and it's still working perfect. No cracked screen. Nothing broken.

The case is on it's last leg though - all but 1 of the snaps is fallen off and it's looks like it was in a fight with a mangy cat.
