App Catalog to get Expansion of Applications, starting this week?

You heard it here first! Confirmed by a number of devs that got accepted in the Early Access program, developers can now submit their apps to Palm for consideration to be included in the Beta App Catalog, starting from today. Not knowing the averge approval time for app submissions, we should start seeing the influx of apps to the App Catalog starting from today, tomorrow, or within the next week.

The lack of apps on the Pre has been what pulled back many potential Pre consumers. With "thousands" of Early Access Devs and Palm opening the SDK to the public soon, the App Catalog will no doubt be exploding with great apps to compete with Apple's App store by the end of this Summer.

I predict that the App Catalog will expand from 30 apps to about 80 apps by the end of next week.

What was send to Early Access Developers:

We are pleased to announce a limited expansion of access to the Beta Application Catalog for our SDK early access partners. Starting today, you can submit your application for consideration to be included in the Catalog.

hmmm... Just in time to keep thousands of PRE's from flooding back in at the end of their 30-day evaluation period

I don't see that "official word from Palm" on the blog or on the PDN blog... could you please link to your source?

Though exciting, I feel this is more of a "prediction.” If you wanted us to take this more seriously, I think a named resource would have been more suitable... I totally agree with you Xyg... so far this "headline" is just a rumor, in my opinion; seeing is believing...

That was a internal thing send to Early Access Program partners.

Man I really hope so! More apps is all I'm missing right now.

I dont think we will be seeing any new apps for at least 2 weeks. I doubt palm we be releasing random apps on random days. They will wait to gather a large big of apps(at least 10-15 Im guessing) , put them through a long approval period then release them with an update.... I hope my guess happen in july!

ALso even if this is an "internal thing send to Early Access Program partners." like previous mentioned. Pre THinking can still post a screen shot or exact wording of the Memo. They might as well, since it already leaked.

It just hard to believe after palm has let us down but not adding any apps in weeks.... wtf?

I did post the "exact wording"

"We are pleased to announce a limited expansion of access to the Beta Application Catalog for our SDK early access partners. Starting today, you can submit your application for consideration to be included in the Catalog." at the bottom of the post

oh i didnt see that, but "submit your application for consideration to be included in the Catalog" sounds like the beginning of a long, picky approval process.

thx for the info tho.

It happens. No problem. :)

Pre's already dead. There's no way that Palm will survive into 2010.

People make me laugh, the Pre is already dead. Hell the Pre has only just begun. Not saying the Pre is gonna outsell the iPhone but it continues to sell out in Sprint, Best Buy stores so what does that tell you. I am impressed that the Pre being a 1st gen phone is doing so well vs a 3rd gen phone. Apps so we all want apps and they will be here in due time, hell the phone just came out. As I say to all the iPhone lovers Pre HATERS. Don't go away mad, just go away!

Just FYI, I can confirm there was no email in this regard sent out to Early Access Developers. And the fact is, the App Catalog isn't even finished. They haven't even figred out how paid apps will work...

This is looking more and more like a mistake on my part getting this phone! Wasnt this the kind of BS we put up with 6 MONTHS before it was finally released and even then it looks pre-mature!

July 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDepressed

NDA is wrong; this is clearly marked in a post on the SDK site with a CLEAR invitation for early developers to start submitting their apps. Shit, even tonight I got another email from the head of the PDN ("Chuq" if you must know) reminding us to submit them for approval.

The apps are coming folks. As one of the developers who got early access and has been spending late nights getting an app ready (look at the timestamp on this post, if you need proof), we're working hard as hell to get them ready for the world to see.

In short, "NDA" is bullshit.

Can Palm Pre use iPhone App Store apps? Is there a work-around?

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFrank Bouknight

I bet apps are coming soon! Clearly that's Obvious, why else have a app store to begin with. My questions are: When, How Much (pricing), How Many, 3d Games???
I guess only time will tell.... Till then I'm enjoy the many Homebrew app/games out there 4 now.

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterhappy?

There's like NO games in the app catalog & the ones I have are pointless . Palm needs to come out with some exciting games , fast or I might just have to switch to something else that suits my needs better . Its pretty disappointing to see how verizon has need for speed and palm has connect 4 ? COME ON NOW . why can't palm have that ?!?!?!

I am enjoying my Pre -- very reliable, excellent call quality, nice form and size. But I do sincerely hope Palm develops a more robust and useful app library. I'd like a program that would enable me to block annoying callers, "unknown" callers and "blocked number" callers.
