New Palm Pre Ad from Bell looks identical to the iPhone Ads

I hate to say it, but the latest Bell Palm Pre Ads looks almost identical to the iPhone Ads that Apple had been running for years. It's a dude holding the device in one hand (impossibly good looking hands), with catchy music playing in the background, dude walks you through some of the features from the Phone, and don't forget that empty, white backdrop. Now before you start bashing Palm, it looks like the Ad came out of Bell, not Palm. Did the Bell Marketing Team run out of ideas or something? Oh, and the part where it shows Google Maps going into landscape mode, yeah... that's totally fake.

At least it's not creepy right?

Bell Palm Pre Ad

iPhone Ad featuring Shazam. That reminds me, the Pre needs an app like Shazam.

That was the best Palm Pre ad ever

Why does the Bell Pre Google Maps rotate and Sprint Pre Google Maps doesn't? False Add?

Best palm pre commercial yet! Bell got it right!!!!!!! I can't stress that enough. Great job bell!

That was not only not original, but it wasn't even as cool as apple's. If you're going to steal someones idea, don't suck at it.

I love the fact that one if the 'features' they mentioned was the fact that it can close an app. Obviously not enough amazing features to show something better…

That will probably sell more iPhones. That's the first thing you think of when you see it.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMe

Yeah, doesn't everyone know that Apple invented and patented using a phone with your hands??? Palm should have used their feet to type on that real keyboard and manage multiple running applications...

It's supposed to look like an iPhone ad, up until it says "But it doesn't stop there (i.e; the iPhone stops there)." Than it shows the advantages the Pre has, physical keyboard, multiple apps at once. It's a way to compare it to the iPhone without directly mentioning it.

Looks like Palm is hopping on the Microsoft train. They're hoping people will confuse their product with Apple's and buy it by mistake.

Copy the iphone... copy the advertising...

what lack of inventiveness! it's pathetic!

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterstal

So what if it looks alike.
How else are you suppose to use the Palm Pre, with your foot?

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKeith H

you guys are fools. the first words in the commercial are "THIS IS THE PALM PRE"

now if you're still confused you're a dumb ass.

Bash apples ads and actually achieve humor???
(Fuck you Microsoft and your shit commercials)
There's an ad for that!

If Bell keeps up this kind of campaign, they're going to be fighting lawsuits... all the way to the top! =) for them if this is the strategy they're employing.

I guess they can't say there's an app for that because there isn't much apps for anything.

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAugustus

Actually, all touch screen phones copied the Palm.

Why are we even talking about Bell? It's just a dinky little Canadian company that no one cares for. Same goes for Rogers, the other telecom "giant" in Canada (what a joke!)

August 21, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJack

Some people say this ad is pathetic and is just copying the iPhone.. But, the ad did what it was supposed to: got you talking and thinking about it. In a positive and negative way, but you have it on your mind. And since when is copying a style a crime? Lucky Strike does it all the time!
(Btw, pls don't flame me :) Just my opinion..)

"But, the ad did what it was supposed to: got you talking and thinking about it."

Ah, the old "any publicity is good publicity" defense. Good luck with that one.

I'm pretty sure Palm's marketing dept. is appalled by this cheap knockoff attempt by Bell.

What's new! Palm has been copying Apple ever since they started up by copying Apple's Newton.... the original PDA, with touch screen & handwriting recognition, I still use it today with mu;tiple apps and multi-syncing. BTW this was discontinued by Apple way back in 1996! Way to go Palm, you haven't changed a thing, steal from an innovative company, stick your label on it and call it yours, You're the real pirates & I for one will be super glad when you finally go OUT OF BUSINESS.... you're well on your way, BYe Bye. Also, idiots, & ignorant folk. The iPhone multi-tasks very, very well!!! Do some research before you ape a lying, copycat, stealing company like Palm. Oh Yeah! the so-called "APPS" for Palm Pre ? they're just WIDGETS! That's right they're not REAL APPs jus WIDGETS! WIDGETS! so the Pre is just a Midget WIDGET Phone which cannot receive a phone call while doing anything else!!!!! Did you get that? The so-called multi-sync will not allow you to receive a phone call while youre doing anything else with the Plastic, Crappy Midget Widget Phone. So go right ahead fools & buy into that hype.

@Dave :

You're such a big mouth asshole! your the one whos idiot and fool! If you'll be glad if Palm is out of business well I'm not! If you love your apple thing just leave it to yourself!

I have both the iPhome and the Pre and I actually love them both so I can't really say anything bad about each one but after researching this, Palm actually came out with the Touchscreen first with the Palm Pilot handheld even before Apple came out with the iPhone. Apple adapted this on their Cell phones. I read an Article on the San Jose, Ca Tech Magazine about it. It was pretty interesting nteresting. However, on personal note, I like my Pre better than my new iPhone. I am looking forward to new apps coming out as I was excited for new apps to come out when I purchased my first iPhone when it was released.

omg im sick and tired of people saying palm copied the iphone!! get over it and check the facts, Palm owns the patents to most of the tech in the iphone. Apple is natorious for ripping peoples ideas off or buying them and using them as if they created them (ex. microsoft created the beloved touch wheel on the ipod). Palm invented the touch screen phone!! you fan boys know nothing about tech or history.. but thats is exactly why you love your iphone so much.. because you dont know any better. get off the bandwagon and do some research. its ok to love your iphone but please stop saying palm stole the idea because in reality palm had apps first, and touch screen phones for about 10 years or more.. oh and the pre is already better and in another 2 yrs itll be 100x the phone iphone ever was.. but youll probably still be in denile.
